Axalto Access Client Software The target audience for the Access Client Software Administrator's Guide is an administrator who is responsible for managing an enterprise-wide Access Client Software deployment. Administrators might interact with the ACS to:

 

  • install and configure the ACS on their own machines.
  • install the ACS on end users' machines.
  • configure and troubleshoot ACS features on end users' machines.
  • personalize end users' smart cards.
  • assist users running the ACS tools and utilities to manage data on their own smart cards.
  • Activity Monitor, which shows smart card and ACS activity, and provides a way to start many ACS tools and utilities and view software version information.
  • Configuration Utility, a utility to view or edit the registry settings for the CAM, card auditing, certificate propagation, CSP, and PKCS #11 components.
  • Cryptographic Object Viewer and Editor (COVE), a tool to manage smart cards in a non-GSC-IS environment. The COVE User Tool provides a GUI for end users to manage certificates, keys, PINs, and other data on smart cards. The COVE Admin Tool also provides an expanded suite of smart card management tools for administrators, including card personalization tools.
  • CMC Admin Tool, a tool to personalize and manage data on smart cards in a GSC-IS environment.
  • Diagnostic Utility, which provides system information to help troubleshoot problems with the Access Client Software and related hardware problems. This feature is available on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 systems.
  • Reader Tools, which enable an end user or administrator to verify that communication between the smart card and the smart card reader is successful.
  • PKCS #12 Utility, a utility to install the certificate and key pair contained in a .pcx file onto the smart card.
  • Certificate Authentication Management (CAM), a service that enables PIN-sharing among applications requiring smart card PIN-based user authentication. This feature is available on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 systems.
  • Certificate Propagation, an application that automatically copies digital certificates from the smart card to the workstation's certificate store as required by CryptoAPI-compliant applications, and also removes certificates from the store.
  • Axalto CSP, a Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP) that supports software applications developed in compliance with the Microsoft CryptoAPI v2.0.
  • PKCS #11 library, an interface to support software applications that comply with the PKCS #11 v2.01 specification.
  • Axalto Simple Smart Card GINA, which can be used to manage users and passwords in a non-certificate authority environment. This feature is available on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 systems.
  • Smart Card Unblock GINA, a feature that enables end users to unblock a smart card if they cannot log on to a system because the smart card is blocked. This feature is available on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 systems.
  • Smart Card Insertion/Removal Auditing, a feature that allows monitoring of smart card insertions and removals.
